King & Queen of the Vegie Patch

18 August, 2010

Something that I am very proud to sponsor is the unique King & Queen of the Vegie Patch Competition.

king 1

This is a photo entry competition for babies (up to 18months old), who have been photographed with a vegie patch theme (love it!!). Think baby holding some vegies or even popping bub into your very own vegie garden.

We know growing your own food is a great learning step for nutrition & understanding food miles for kids (which in turn helps us understand so many important enviromental issues), so its got points already. I love that the competition isn’t for the best photography, or even a beauty contest, but for a bub in a vegie patch scene.

The prizes are eco fantastic, with eco peko supplying bamboodies, organic tee’s and happy daks for the King and Queen, as well as prizes from Agoo, Bowtique, Love Bytes (we are talking an amazing photography shoot of the winning bubs…I love this girls work, its colour saturated and really unique..this will be worth winning alone..the picture above is an example of her work), Modern Cloth Nappies from Bonnibuns , Lil Rockers, About a Boy & La Toriana

There is also prizes for the 6 runner up boys and 6 runner up girls (there are only 6 entries so far!!!) Of which all the sponsors are popping something in (we are adding a super big organic bib, valued at $22.95 to each runner up, so even the runner up prizes will be good)

So if you or someone you know has a little eco baby that loves to get photographed (must be 18 months or under and have a vegie themed photo), enter now as its still anyones game. The final date to enter is next Monday the 23rd, so get your skates on…click on the link King & Queen of the Vegie Patch , and away you go :)

Its been along time between blogs, but a couple of very cool things have caught my eye…

peppermint magazine issue 5The latest (thats 5th folks) issue of Peppermint is totally rocking. Australia’s very own eco fashion mag has some tips on having a green wedding, a tablecloth to skirt pattern, some wonderful interviews and insight into eco artists world wide, some very cool eco fashion…and this gem from the naughty corner, which blew me away

quote ” It seems of late, Lucas Paw Paw Ointment has attained semi-cult status. You would be hard pressed not to know at least one person who has that little red container lurking in the bottom of their handbag. But here at Peppermint we heard some worrisome whispers. We couldn’t rest without knowing: could it be that precious little paw paw product is filled with petroleum jelly? Well yes, beauty sleuths, I’m afraid its true”………they go onto recommend some beautiful organic lip balms, that more then replace, what was once my favourite product! Get this latest issue at (which is carbon neutral, printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper and donating proceeds to ‘Save the Children Haiti Earthquake Emergency Appeal’) your favourite newsagent, and if its not there ask for them to get it in!.

gypsy caravanNext on the list is BeaDivine’s blog ‘from the blue shed‘. Their she talks about her latest jewelry creations (more on that soon), gives patterns and inspiration for a wide variety of very cool projects (reversible scrappy girls headscarf..with a peak anyone?) and some delicious healthy recipes, but my favorite is the transformation of an old derelict caravan into a gypsy wonderland for her girls..check it out!!!

Whilst surfing, have a look at Robins etsy site, she has some wonderful jewelry made from beautiful vintage china..tea party couture.

its the biggest one yet!!!

26 March, 2010

Oh me, oh my, its a very exciting  change for Upmarket this week, with our move to UWA (lots of parking folks…lots…. [I had a market downer last weekend...no parking... hefty fines (200 bucks!!!) it was a 'no parking' market venue]).

Well after that ‘mother earth’ of a storm, UWA wasn’t looking that flash (lots of windows broken), so Justine (not me…Mrs Barsley…or as I like to call her Mrs Clever) and her team, organised marquee’s, to house the 100 odd artisans expected this weekend on the grounds at the very beautiful UWA

….late breaking news reveals that UWA has come to the ‘market party’ and fixed the windows in Winthrop Hall in time for this Sunday!!!

Other great news

  • its the same day and venue (different area) as the Perth Sun Fair ( a renewable energy and sustainable living fair)…which I’m very excited about
  • there are play areas for kids;  including Storks Corner Store  (story readers and craft activities)
  • eco peko’s cardboard  courtyard (we have a comp going on..)
  • Phil from Unfurl will be the DJ crooner & teaching his juggling skills
  • and 30 free bags of artisian goodness to pick up .

it gets better…ecopeko & Upmarket only specials….

Because of our year long unison and synergy with Upmarket, eco peko would like to offer these specials for the March 28th market

  • the first 3 customers who buy 2 tees, will receive a free set of eco table and chairs (value $49.95)
  • the first 3 customers to buy 1 tee, will receive a free, eco rockin cradle (value $ 15.00)
  • order’s for super sturdy cubbies or castles are only $39.95 (on the day) excluding shipping.
  • pre-ordered cubbies & castles for pick up that day are $39.95 (no shipping…must be pre-ordered through either info@ecopeko.com or 0448 218 135)

……….these cubbies and castles are the best on the market (confirmed by European design book ‘Cardboard Design’) , are made from recycled card and made in Perth..I have done lots of testing with my own 5yr and 3yr old children (Big hit at Levi’s (5) birthday) and are currently retailing for $49.95 (not including shipping), the discount offer is only for this weekends Perth Upmarket.

But wait there’s more!!!!!!!!……….every ecopeko sale at upmarket will receive free organic veggie seeds (and garden patch chatter..if you are keen..we love talking veggies)

It really is the biggest one yet!

Rock a bye baby

8 March, 2010

The very lovely Michelle, sent in a picture of her son Henry (5 months), being rocked in an eco peko cardboard cradle.

Though meant for dolls, this picture shows, bubba’s like to rock out in them as well (he’s so cute :) .

Thanks Henry and Michelle xx

Spencer Tunick

6 March, 2010

I had an amazing experience at the end of the shows…by being a part of Spencer’s artwork. I wasn’t going to blog about it, because I thought it not ‘eco peko clothing’…but in reflection, realized, it so is…

I was lucky enough to share a liberating experience with 5000 other people…though very cold, over time we all developed a tribe, under the careful instruction of Spencer. I noted people well over and under the 60 mark, and over and under the 60kg mark. Amazing tattoo’s and body shapes..with no judgement and plenty of comradeship…I didn’t take any photo’s, but googled this…if you ever have the opportunity, be a part of art.xxxxx

Life In style

4 March, 2010

What an amazing 4 days at Sydney’s Life Instyle last week!!! We were surrounded by some great exhibiters Miss Haidee with her vintage one off’s made by Nanna’s in Byron Bay, Aunty Ollie with her wonderful retro wear, Jazslings the practical one piece sling (no rings..I love it) and the very lovely Mally from Grasshopper a beautifully hand knitted range of baby wear by some amazing women in Zimbabwe.

Other wonderful products I saw were from Princess Ratbag (the most luxurious pettiskirts ever), with there new apricot / musk skirts (can’t say it enough…amazing) and as always clever, clever Jetti Spaghetti with lamps, chopsticks and blackboard placemats .

We had a busy time, what with all the trade shows happening at the same time, George Michael playing near the grounds and the Mardi Gras Parade on the Saturday, there was lots of colour and movement!

Surrounded by cardboard yet again, I wore my Mady Dooijes hemp/organic cotton dress (dyed with tea…very cool, check this designer out :) and talked eco peko until I was peko’ed right out…..

DSCN0931 Thank you, thank you to my very talented sister for all her help…..until next year…bye, bye Instyle and…. hello Upmarket :)
