2 December, 2009

Here are some great pictures by the very lovely Jessica Shaver at last weekends very successful Perth Upmarket.

We were on the verander on Hay street and even though, we only had half a roof, we had a very cool cardboard corner.

eco peko @ UpMarketOur cardboard creations were received very well, and as we only made a small run, we only have a limited amount left. If its something that interests you (a very cool creative distraction for the kids this chrissy lunch), take advantage of our sale and get one before we sell out.

seedy…very seedy

24 November, 2009

After, a quite successful crop of coriander and rocket this last season, Loli, Levi and I harvested a new batch of seeds for distribution with our t-shirts.

We now have coriander to add (lots of carrot seeds still in rotation at the mo, as well as Rocket, rocket, rocket [can we get enough rocket])

loli harvesting seedsIf you are looking for tips on saving your own seeds, we are more than happy to share tips.

But basically, its this.

Let your plant go to seed, either bag the seeds on the plant…. or (as it was our case this year), don’t water them, they will dry out, and then cut the stems and harvest the seeds….its that easy.coriander seeds

There is something very satisfying about saving your own seeds, grab some of ours and try it!!!!

Exciting news of our new cardboard toy range coming soon…..

drum roll please….

30 September, 2009

drum roll please…….I’m very happy to present the new prints from eco peko.

Already selling at biome – Brisbane, Cheeki Kids – West Beach S.A, Gecoz -Bellingen, Pink Fly – Yarragon Vic, Tribe – Mossman QLD, Weekends – Subiaco W.A, Whoops A Daisy – Castlemaine Vic, these limited edition prints are proving to be quite popular.

The first eco angel, is actually a print from last year (back by popular demand!). It is for all our little angels and has cute butterfly wings on the back. This print is only available in  natural.

The next print is a bee themed, super hero print. The bee’s wings on the back of the shirt are a very subtle silver/grey. This print comes in both green and natural.

The next two prints, I love and I have been so excited to get them out there…the fact that, not everyone gets ‘em, makes them even more special.
FRANKIE SAY RECYCLE

The first, FRANKIE SAY RECYCLE is a hats off to Katherine Hamnett’s (the queen of green and slogan scene ) legendary FRANKIE SAY RELAX shirt from the 80′s. It comes in both natural and green.

my other shirt is a hybrid

The next ‘my other shirt is a hybrid’. Inferring that the other shirt is more eco than this one (or a hybrid car), is cute to me.

These tops have had a limited run, so if they take your fancy, snap em up, as they won’t be around long……..

Kids inStyle

10 August, 2009

Its taken just over a week to recover from what seems like the longest trade show in the world (5 days!!!).

Kids inStyle, is a part of Life inStyle and is very impressive indeed. This year it was held in The Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Melbourne and there were over 500 exhibitors.

We were tucked in the far back corner and had built a cardboard house, which was a first for the show. It took us two days and a lot of sweat and tears (mine), but it finally came together (and again…was very impressive indeed) We were voted one of the top 20 best in show by Kids Style File …yay!

The cardboard Cubby

Luckly we were situated next to some very cool ‘tradies’ indeed. To our left were the Boofheads girls. They create posh shampoo for kids, and though its not organic is SLS and sulphate free and the perfume (notes of patcholi..which I love) is devine. My daughter (who hated having her hair washed) now has the shiniest hair on the street. I can’t recommend it enough.

Next to them were the very lovely Paris and Louise from Jetti Spaghetti who have created chop sticks for kids, and my 4 year old and 2 year old, love them (and can use them!).

On our right was Gillian from Danish by Design, who had a rug, that was actually a dolls house (its amazing!).

The team consisted of Mim (thank you dear sister) and great friends James and Dean, who helped put the whole thing together.

Thanks everyone, see you in Sydney for next years show!

eco peko has worms

11 July, 2009

Loli with her pet wormWe at eco peko love our worms. Kids think they are fantastic, they eat stuff your chooks won’t and they are super easy to look after.

Now we are relatively new with worm farming, but so far we have picked up a few tips that we would love to share (also I went to a talk by Kerry Sourdin, the Worms on Wheels lady, who told me loads of stuff. For Perth residents, Kerry can supply brilliant worms and information sessions [this woman knows alot about worms]. You can contact her on (08) 9337 7933 or absobook@aapt.net.au).

Tips for happy wormies

looks yucky, but is really good (don't eat it though)

looks yucky, but is really good (don't eat it though)

  • the styrofoam boxes work a treat. Make sure you put them on an angle, with a little pipe at the base to drain off liquid (super fertilizer). Worms like to be wet, but they don’t know how to swim.
  • feed them with kitchen scraps. Its best to steer clear of meat, onions and citrus peels. They love, love, love watermelon!
  • tuck them in with a layer of wet newspaper and a piece of wet carpet.

Thats it! Its super easy. If you would like a more detailed information sheet, send us an email at info@ecopeko.com and we will send it through.

Happy worming :)

to market, to market, to buy a lentil stew

13 June, 2009

It was a beautiful day last Sunday for the June edition of Perth’s Upmarket. With record numbers coming through the doors, this market is fast becoming the premier market in Perth.dscn0116

We were situated at the front door and had heaps of great comments and sales for/of our complete range of organic tee gift packs.

We also had quite a few enter our tree free mailing list competition and the winner is……..Rhonda Kauries of Geraldton (congratulations Rhonda, I’m sure your nephew will be the greenest kid in the playground.

Of course all the exhibitors are fantastic and unique, but a few of my fav’s from this market were…Stepmums (right next to our stall), they produce great bags, purses and cupcake stands made from old vinyl records, milk cartons and inner tubes. Oli B Designs who’s pants, kaftans and bloomers made from chenille rugs are the cutest (and for some reason remind me of Tropical Fruits (dance party just outside of Byron Bay), attire of the late 80′s.

And last but not least Turban Chopsticks, for their takeaway lentil stew pack, that I made that night with great success…yum, yum can’t wait for the next one
